OK, so I knew I wanted to decorate the car, I just had to decide how. At the time, Henry's company Sonic Solutions was carrying out lots of cd test burns and generating lots of "coasters" as they called the wasted cd's. Soon they also began learning to burn dvd's (which came in different colors).

Henry not liking waste would bring these home. "There must be something we can do with these" he'd say as my tiny apartment was becoming littered with shiny discs. Then one day it hit me. "We'll cover the car in cd's!" I exclaimed. We both immediately loved the idea and spent lots of time discussing how we would stick them to the car. The earlier ideas were a mosaic of whole cd's with some sort of grout in between. We started worrying about weight, because grout is heavy and we'd need a significant amount of it to suppot the flat cd's on a car's rounded surface. Then I thought "we can over lap them" so I started laying them out on the floor. I quickly realized that we'd be using alot of cd's and the coverage didn't seem to be very effective. So I took circles of paper and cut them in halves quarters and eighths. As I layed these out on the floor I concluded that quarters was the way to go.

Next was the decision of what to glue them on with... and the answer was silicone! Adhesive, flexible, clear, water proof.

Cutting the cd's was also a challenge, which is another story in itself....
